Season 2021-2022 Sees Dimensions of Friendship, Foes, and Family
We are thrilled to be able to announce the lineup for ISTC’s fifth season. We are bringing back two shows rescheduled from the pandemic, The Cake and Sweat. One of the great classics of the American stage, Long Day’s Journey Into Night, will be seen for the first time in a long while in central Iowa. We bring back the festive Christmas classic, It's A Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play. And for the second year we have a world premiere from an Iowa Playwright, a successor to a hugely popular show in recent years, Karen Schaeffer’s Girls’ Weekend 2.
All of these back in our home at the Stoner Theater of Des Moines Performing Arts.
We cannot wait to see you IN-PERSON at the theater!

The Cake
By Bekah Brunstetter
November 12 - 21, 2021
Jen's dreamed of her wedding day her whole life. She finally found The One and returns to her North Carolina hometown to ask Della, the best friend of her deceased mother, to bake her wedding cake. Della refuses because Jen is marrying a woman. Mix in a baking reality show and a dormant marriage and things get very, very interesting.

It's A Wonderful Life:
A Live Radio Play
Adapted by Joe Landry
December 16-23, 2021
This beloved American holiday classic comes to captivating life as a live 1940s radio broadcast. With the help of an ensemble that brings a few dozen characters to the stage, the story of idealistic George Bailey unfolds as he considers ending his life one fateful Christmas Eve.

Long Day's Journey into Night
By Eugene O'Neill
March 25th to April 3rd, 2022
A play about addiction and the resulting dysfunction of the family, Eugene O'Neill's autobiographical play Long Day's Journey into Night is regarded as his finest work. First published by Yale University Press in 1956, it won the Pulitzer Prize in 1957.

Sweat
By Lynn Nottage
September 16-25, 2022
Filled with warm humor and tremendous heart, Sweat tells the story of a group of friends who have spent their lives sharing drinks, secrets, and laughs while working together on the factory floor. But when layoffs and picket lines begin to chip away at their trust, the friends find themselves pitted against each other in a heart-wrenching fight to stay afloat.

Girls' Weekend 2
By Karen Schaeffer
April 29 - May 15, 2022
Meg’s getting married, but not before an epic bachelorette party at Dot’s cabin. As friends and family gather to raise a glass, well, several glasses—it isn’t long before misinformation and mixed signals threaten to derail the ceremony. Even the designated driver can’t save this wild ride, a farce made possible by the devious imagination of Karen Schaeffer.

A Christmas Carol
By Charles Dickens adapted by Michael Wilson
December 9 - 18, 2022
A Christmas Carol has been a holiday tradition for Iowa Stage, and to celebrate our move to the Stoner we are creating a new version, with all new sets, to delight holiday audiences with the timeless tale of Scrooge’s ghostly visitations and Yuletide change of heart.

We count on the support of our generous donors to help us create the laughs, the goosebumps, the tears, and the rush of a well-told story.
Sponsoring an artist helps offset production costs, allowing us work with a variety of Cloris Award-winning local artists. An artist is a performer, a director, a lighting designer, or any one of the professionals creating the magic of the stage.
Sponsoring a show helps us cover the necessary cost of resources like venue rental, licensing, and more. Before we can build the set, help us secure the space.
