King Lear

For many years, we looked forward to performing Shakespeare's finest works with Salisbury House & Gardens' annual "Shakespeare on the Lawn".  In Spring of 2020, Salisbury made the difficult decision to discontinue the event indefinitely.

There is still a keen interest in local outdoor Shakespeare programming, so we at Iowa Stage Theatre went to work rebuilding a more engaging Shakespeare event.

Details are still being finalized but we're thrilled to announce

will be our first production for the summer of 2021.

A Deadly Royal Plot

King Lear divides his kingdom among the two oldest daughters who flatter him, and banishes the third one, Cordelia, who loves him. His eldest daughters both then reject him at their homes, so Lear goes mad and wanders through a storm. When Cordelia returns with an army, will their family wage civil war or find peace?
