IOWA STAGE THEATRE COMPANY PRESENTS FALL SHOWS
ISTC presents Lynn Nottage’s SWEAT and holiday classic A CHRISTMAS CAROL
Iowa Stage Theatre Company (ISTC), central Iowa’s home for award-winning theater that inspires, enlightens and entertains, is presenting two shows this fall, including the return of a holiday classic. Lynn Nottage’s Pulitzer Prize-winning Sweat will be performed from September 16-25, and Michael Wilson’s adaptation of A Christmas Carol will run from December 9-18 at the Stoner Theater.
Sweat is a masterpiece of life in blue collar America, looking at the tensions of factory workers as they struggle with labor strife, racial tension, strained love, getting another gimlet, and the boiling frustrations of trying to make a dollar out of fifty cents.
Lynn Nottage’s work has been previously performed in Des Moines when Pyramid Theatre Company presented Intimate Apparel. Considered to be one of America’s greatest living playwrights, Nottage has had two shows on Broadway in 2022 (Clyde’s and the Michael Jackson musical MJ) as well as an opera of Intimate Apparel performed at Lincoln Center.
ISTC first presented Michael Wilson’s version of A Christmas Carol in 2019, with an entirely new design by Cloris award-winner Jay Jagim. The production received rave reviews. “We are delighted to bring back this beloved holiday tradition in an exciting new production,” said McIver.
ISTC will announce its 2023 season in October, with a launch event to celebrate the upcoming season. Audiences can look forward to new work and classics, ranging from hilarious to heartwarming.
