Iowa Stage Theatre Company has received funding from the National Endowment for the Arts, via the Arts Midwest GIG Fund, for its upcoming production of The Glass Menagerie. Iowa Stage is one of only seven Iowa organizations, and the only theatre company in Iowa, to receive GIG funding in 2024.
103 organizations across nine states were granted GIG Fund awards for 2024. Iowa Stage’s production of The Glass Menagerie will debut on March 1, 2024. The interpretation will focus on elevating themes of the Black experience, mental illness, and the historical impact of queer authors. It will also provide opportunities for underserved members of the greater Des Moines community and local college students to attend and experience the art creation process. Tickets can be purchased at iowastage.org.
Congratulations to the six other Iowa organizations awarded funding!
Iowa Stage Theatre Company transforms Iowa, its citizens, and the arts community by producing truthful, relevant, and intimate theatre that inspires, enlightens, and entertains. 2024 marks a new standard for Iowa Stage Theatre Company: a season of shows selected to “inspire, enlighten, and entertain” around a common theme. Our first themed season, dubbed “Ladies First,” explores the power of women.
Iowa Stage Theatre Company is committed to presenting both the classics and the cutting-edge, and paying artists and theatre-makers for their work. The company launched in 2017 as the product of a merger between two well-loved companies, each with a distinct focus. StageWest (1999-2017) focused on contemporary works and Repertory Theatre of Iowa (2007-2017) focused on classics. Iowa Stage recognizes the importance of each to truly engaging and impacting Iowa audiences. Iowa Stage is one of only two Iowa organizations to receive prestigious annual funding from the nation’s largest theatre grantmaker, The Shubert Foundation.
