Resident Artist (Actor)

Eric Olson came to Des Moines in 2015 from California, where he was active in the artistic communities of both Palm Springs and San Diego as an actor, director, and playwright. His original play “Nothing, Less” was produced in 2008 by Playwright’s Circle in Palm Springs and again in 2010 as part of the Orlando Short Play Festival. He is a member of SAG-AFTRA with a B.A. in Creative Writing from UCLA and a master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University. He has worked as an editor and writer for such magazines as Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, and Riviera Modern Luxury. Currently, he works in corporate communications. Some of his favorite credits include Monty Python’s Spamalot (Coronado Playhouse), A Midsummer Night’s Dream, God of Carnage (Desert Ensemble Theatre), Waiting for Godot, Baby With The Bathwater, Lend Me A Tenor (La Quinta Playhouse), One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, and A Few Good Men (Palm Canyon Theatre). Special thanks and love to his wife Juli and his daughters, Paige and Sophie, for their support (and patience)!

Eric has appeared in the following Iowa Stage productions: Trouble In Mind, Exit Strategy, Adore Us! Line, Company, and Straight White Men (for Iowa Stage’s predecessor StageWest).

Other local credits include: Equus, Temporary Insanity, Every Christmas Story Ever Told (And Then Some!), Bridges of Madison County (Concert), Rumors, Oleanna (Cloris Nomination), and Hillary: A Modern Greek Tragedy With A (Somewhat) Happy Ending at Tallgrass Theatre Company; Private Passage for Kingsman Row Productions; and Around the World In 80 Days for Des Moines Playhouse.
