In 1937, Harry J. Anslinger, the first commissioner of the Federal Bureau of Narcotics (the predecessor of the current Drug Enforcement Administration), published an article entitled “Marijuana: Assassin of Youth” in which he warned readers about the unpredictable transformations in character that cannabis users undergo.
